This website was created to assist with identification of wild flowers along the White Pine State Park in Mecosta and Osceola counties of Michigan. ( Although, use can be generalized to the entire lower peninsula of Michigan. If north of Big Rapids you add 1-2 weeks for the correct dates of flower presentation. South of Big Rapids subtract 1-2 weeks.) Flowers were photographed as soon as they became visible. The date the photograph was taken is included to give individuals an idea of the natural progression of nature.
If you find a flower in June and cannot locate it in our June collection of flowers, check May or July . You will often find it there. If it’s not on the website, I probably haven’t identified it yet.
This collection is not intended to be a complete compendium of the wild flowers of Michigan. ( Although I am trying!) It is a work in progress. Some photographs do not describe the features I feel will be most helpful in flower identification and I hope to replace them as I acquire better pictures. If a flower is incorrectly identified, please contact me at this website. As an amateur I appreciate all assistance to make this website better.
